I really can't review this product because I am waiting patientlyto have it sent to me.It has been ordered for quite some time now.
Those that can't read and follow instructions will find this scanner impossible to put to use. Scanner works great. It is easy to program if you know how to read and follow instructions and find desired frequencies on the web.
Specifically this one. Perhaps my cousin would like it. Clemens' name has been stricken from library files because too few people know he is "Mark Twain"; rather than buy components, most of us are advised to buy "home theater" equipment even if we only want the audio; even cell phones are becoming rolling packs of trivia and "personalized" ring tones.
As a transpotter, I must have those frequencies because it is only in those frequencies that the federal government and the Association of American Railroads permit communication. He goes to NASCAR races down in North Carolina. Betty Bearcat, why are you so hard to deal with.
People say our society has becomed "dumbed down": you know, Samuel L. And worst of all for me, I simply have not been able to get it to accept signals in the 160-161 Mhz frequencies to follow my railroading hobby.
Fear not, for one aspect of American life has remained as technically frustrating, jargon-laden and obscurantist as any pedant could want: scanners. Oh, it works where it is supposed to work but it is darn difficult to program.
If you have a friend that already has this scanner definetly buy it. Eventually I will master all of it's functions but it is like pulling teeth. This would be a great product for the price if the programing were more people friendly like today's computers.
Programing is hard to understand. Still have problems performing basic functions by following the directions. Very difficult to understand directions.
The scanner reminds me of the early computers that only computer geeks could understand. Let the friend set it up to get you started. The scanner works very well for the knowledge that I have of it.
It seems to be of top quality performance wise and works well.
Great reception, with the big antenna. usually about 20$ less. The battery life is about a day, which is great, considering you can charge the NiMH batteries with the included charger.
Remember that this product holds 10 banks of 20 frequencies. But an equally quality product. If you are looking for something smaller, Bearcat has a BC72XLT which is 10 x 10.
This is my second unit and I have not had any problems with either of them. truely a great product. A++++++
The programming interface is simple, it doesn't dirty easily and is easily cleaned anyway. Fast shipping with this seller.
